PowerHouse Purchase: Activated Charcoal.

Okay.  So this is the first (and possibly last?) PowerHouse Purchase that is non-food related.  The Purchases of the Past have been food items that could also double as beauty regimen ingredients as well.  Well, today I break the rules and post about something non-edible but something your face will love you for.  (Author’s Note:  You actually CAN ingest activated charcoal powder in a number of supplements.  Check out Bulletproof’s Coconut Charcoal detox…)

Who would have thought charcoal is good for your skin??  I remember first seeing charcoal soap being sold in my neighborhood’s co-op a few years back.  Black soap?  How would charcoal be good for my skin?  Isn’t it dirty?  Read on to find out the benefits of using ACTIVATED charcoal (also known as activated carbon) to keep your skin clean, tightened, and glowing.

Why You Should Own This Shtuff:

1.)  Activated charcoal ABSORBS toxins.  When used in a face mask, activated charcoal has been treated with oxygen to create an extremely porous material.  Slathering it on your face and letting it dry actually captures and pulls unwanted debris and nasty stuff right out of your pores.  As a result, your skin will “glow” and it will feel tightened after use.  “Activated charcoal works because it chemically binds other substances to its surface and can absorb thousands of times its own weight.”  Find a dry mask or one mixed with aloe vera gel for added moisture.  I love this dry mask from Good Earth Essentials on Etsy.  I have been buying her Activated Charcoal Face Wash and Mask now for going on two years!

2.)  It is a natural whitening agent.  Putting black stuff in your mouth to make for whiter teeth may seem like a crazy idea, but it supposedly works.  Charcoal is odorless and tasteless.  Your mouth will look pretty crazy, but after a few weeks it is said to have whitened your teeth.  I have yet to try this, but I’d like to take on the challenge and show you all some before and after pics!

Think of sending little tiny trash men into your pores and they are DEEP CLEANING.  They are hauling that sh*t OUT and into the street and tossing it into the truck.

Newest addition to my Activated Charcoal line-up: This one is a wet mask made with Tumeric, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint oils mixed with aloe gel.

Get dirty to get clean.

So get detoxing and post a picture if you do the teeth brushing, please and thank you! 😉
